Across Common Ground
Several of my artworks were part of the 'Across Common Ground: Contemporary Art Outside the Center' exhibit at Bates Museum of Art in Maine. This powerful exhibit opened last October and ran through this March. As part of the programming, my piece ‘Mano de Obra’ was exhibited as a full room immersive installation at the IM Studio, Olin Arts Center at Bates College.
During my time as an exhibiting artist, I was invited as guest speaker for two classes, one on art and photography, and another in environmental studies. The students had fantastic insight into the creative process and how it connects to personal exploration and the world around us; we had really good discussions.
Lastly, my cinder block altar installation titled "On Permanence" was activated with a video/audio pieces as a performance installation during the closing event. It became alive with visual of a river pouring over it, and a sound and poetry piece about our relationship to land and memory.
Thank you to curator Samantha Sigmon and the Bates Museum of Art team for this phenomenal exhibit that expands the canon of contemporary art about rural experiences. If you missed it, you can purchase the catalog!
